Hello Fifth Grade!

Today, we are going to correct the activity I gave you on Tueday, June 2.

We had to change the affirmative sentences to negative and vice versa.

Now, I think it would be a good idea to practice making questions in English using verbs.

One important way of making questions is to use the auxiliary verb "do". This is how it works:

Affirmative:   He likes chocolate.
Question:       Does he like chocolate?

*Do you see that with "does" we use the INFINITIVE verb without "s"?

Affirmative:   You drink coffee every day.
Question:       Do you drink coffee every day?

Affirmative:   Michael listens to music. 
Question:       Does Michael listen to music?


ACTIVITY:

Make QUESTIONS out of the affirmative sentences below.

5th Grade English Review - Affirmative and Negative Sentences

Hello Fifth Grade!


Today I think we should practice and understand how to make sentences affirmative or negative.


Affirmative - means "yes", is the most simple, you must conjugate the verb

Ex: I speak Spanish.      /      He speaks Spanish.           /          They speak Spanish.

Negative - means "no", you must add "do not" or "does not" before the verb, verb is INFINITIVE

Ex: I do not speak Spanish. / He does not speak Spanish.  /  They do not speak Spanish.


NOTE: "don't" is the conjunction of "do not" and "doesn't" is the conjunction of "does not"

NOTE2: In negative the verb must be INFINITIVE after don't/doesn't. See how it is "He speaks Spanish" and "He doesn't speak Spanish" without "s'?



Watch this video for a quick review:

Activity:   Change all affirmative sentences to NEGATIVE.   Change all negative sentences to AFFIRMATIVE.

Ex: She doesn't ride her bike.   She rides her bike.
Ex: Maricarmen doesn't live in Madrid.        Maricarmen lives in Madrid.

4th Grade - Weather and Climate Cultural Video

Hello Fourth Grade

How are you? Have you read your books about weather and climate? We have studied forms of precipitation like snow, rain, and hail.


This video is from my home town of Milwaukee in Wisconsin, and it talks about when 8 inches (20 cm!) of snow fell in MAY back in the year 1990. Can you imagine that much snow in May?

English 3A/B Listening: Telling Time

Hello Third Grade?

How are you? There are other answers instead of "I'm fine, thank you. And you?" Try these.

• I'm okay.

Do you remember all these words from our earlier units? If not, use your dictionary!

Now, today's activity requires you to listen to an American English speaker. Remember, it is okay to use the PAUSE button if he speaks too quickly!

In the video, the man says "Have you got the time?" This is the same as "What time is it?"

He also talks about ways to tell time. 

For example: "It's five to six". This means there are five minutes until (hasta) 6 o'clock or 5:55.

Homework Activity:

4A/B English- Speaking Practice with Nationalities

Hello, fourth grade!

Today I want you to practice SPEAKING English while you watch a video on Youtube. Do you remember when we studied countries, nationalities, and flags (banderas)?

Now, watch the video and REPEAT after each word the woman says. If it is too fast, you can use the Pause (Pausa) button.

NOW, practice these nationalities and practice SPELLING them out loud. Do you remember all of the letters in English? Watch this video to practice how to say each letter in English. Pay special attention to AEIOU, H, J, K, Q, R, V, and Y!

5A/B Natural Science - Solid or Liquid? Experiment

Hello, fifth grade!

Here is a science experiment you can do AT HOME. (with the permission of your parents)

We know there are three states of matter: Solid, Liquid, and Gas.

In this video, they are talking about a strange type of substance that acts like both a liquid AND a solid. It is called "oobleck" because it comes from a Dr. Seuss book!

As you can see, you can move your fingers through it like liquid, but you can pick it up and mold it with your hands like a solid!

It has high surface tension, so you can see how the hand does not make the water splash (salpicar) and it is strong like a solid.

You can make "oobleck" by mixing one part water to two parts corn starch (maicena). So, you can use a half cup of water and one cup of corn starch. You can also use food colouring if you wish.

NOTE: Ask your parents before doing this experiment!

3A/3B Review- There is/There are

Hello, third grade!

It is a good time to revise the use of THERE IS and THERE ARE in English because it is a very important part of English! Do you remember the game we played in class with the pencil cases [estuches]??? "There is!" with one and "There are!" with two pencil cases.

When we use these words we must remember:

- "There is" is used with SINGULAR things (1)

• There is a dinosaur in the classroom!  (How many dinosaurs?  -ONE)
• There is a boy reading his book.   
• There is a teacher in the office. 

- "There are" is used with PLURAL things (2,3,4, etc or "some" [algunos/as])

• There are 25 students in the classroom.   (How many students? - 25)
• There are five dogs in the park. 
• There are some tomatoes in the salad.

REMEMBER: With questions, we must REVERSE the order of "there is/are"

Phrase:  "There is a cat in the house."

Question: "Is there a cat in the house?"

Phrase: "There are five books in the library."

Question: "Are there five books in the library?"

Hello everyone in fifth grade! It's Michael, and I'm here to share an interesting video with you about the world's ecosystems and how they are being affected by the quarantine!

Since people are not in the street as much, and there are not so many cars on the street, we have noticed some interesting things happening in the world. Watch the video and read the questions after. Watch the video again if you have trouble understanding. This video talks about how COVID-19 is affecting the ecosystems of the world. The video even features Retiro Park!
