It is a good time to revise the use of THERE IS and THERE ARE in English because it is a very important part of English! Do you remember the game we played in class with the pencil cases [estuches]??? "There is!" with one and "There are!" with two pencil cases.
When we use these words we must remember:
- "There is" is used with SINGULAR things (1)
- There is a dinosaur in the classroom! (How many dinosaurs? -ONE)
- There is a boy reading his book.
- There is a teacher in the office.
- "There are" is used with PLURAL things (2,3,4, etc or "some" [algunos/as])
- There are 25 students in the classroom. (How many students? - 25)
- There are five dogs in the park.
- There are some tomatoes in the salad.
REMEMBER: With questions, we must REVERSE the order of "there is/are"
Phrase: "There is a cat in the house."
Question: "Is there a cat in the house?"
Phrase: "There are five books in the library."
Question: "Are there five books in the library?"
Watch this video to review what we have studied! Remember to practice this!
Have a happy Monday!
