3A/B English - Hangman!

Hello Third Grade!

Do you remember when we played Hangman in class? Now we can do it on the Internet!

Follow this link to do a game about the capitals of countries. Some are difficult, but try your best?

Easy question: What is the capital of Spain?

https://www.eslgamesplus.com/countries-and-capitals-esl-hangman-game/

Then, you can try this game about irregular verbs in the PAST tense. For example, eat is "ate" in the past.

https://www.eslgamesplus.com/irregular-verbs-interactive-hangman-game-for-esl-grammar/

Last week, I made this video. You had to find the VERBS that I said in my routine. Please watch one more time.

Here is the script for the video. Please correct.

In the morning, I wake up at 9 o'clock. Then, I brush my teeth and get dressed
After this, I eat breakfast and then I begin to work

The verbs are in bold (negrita) and describe my routine. What is your daily routine?

English 3A/B Listening: Telling Time

Hello Third Grade?

How are you? There are other answers instead of "I'm fine, thank you. And you?" Try these.

  • I'm okay.
  • I'm nervous.
  • I'm angry.
  • I'm hungry.
  • I'm thirsty.
  • I'm tired.
  • I'm busy.

Do you remember all these words from our earlier units? If not, use your dictionary!

Now, today's activity requires you to listen to an American English speaker. Remember, it is okay to use the PAUSE button if he speaks too quickly!

In the video, the man says "Have you got the time?" This is the same as "What time is it?"

He also talks about ways to tell time.

For example: "It's five to six". This means there are five minutes until (hasta) 6 o'clock or 5:55.

Homework Activity:

Please write and say the times I am writing below (abajo). Later this week, I will post a video of ME(!) correcting the homework and saying the answers for you to check!

Write the times in WORDS. Example:   4:30   - It's half past four.

1) 2:30
2) 1:15
3) 4:45
4) 11:30
5) 8:55
6) 9:55
7) 10:30
8) 12:45
9) 7:50
10) 5:40

Please complete this by Friday to hear my answers and check.

Have fun!

Michael

NOTE: Parents and students can write to me with any questions at my email: michael.jaimebalmes@gmail.com

3A/3B Review- There is/There are

Hello, third grade!

It is a good time to revise the use of THERE IS and THERE ARE in English because it is a very important part of English! Do you remember the game we played in class with the pencil cases [estuches]??? "There is!" with one and "There are!" with two pencil cases.

When we use these words we must remember:

- "There is" is used with SINGULAR things (1)

  • There is a dinosaur in the classroom!  (How many dinosaurs?  -ONE)
  • There is a boy reading his book.
  • There is a teacher in the office.

- "There are" is used with PLURAL things (2,3,4, etc or "some" [algunos/as])

  • There are 25 students in the classroom.   (How many students? - 25)
  • There are five dogs in the park.
  • There are some tomatoes in the salad.

REMEMBER: With questions, we must REVERSE the order of "there is/are"

Phrase:  "There is a cat in the house."
Question: "Is there a cat in the house?"

Phrase: "There are five books in the library."
Question: "Are there five books in the library?"

Watch this video to review what we have studied! Remember to practice this!

Have a happy Monday!

Telling Time in English

Hi Third Grade!!

I hope you had a nice Semana Santa break!

We are starting Unit 6 on TIME! 😀

Here are some helpful words when telling time in English:

Quarter to/til = 15 minutes BEFORE

Quarter past = 15 minutes AFTER

Half past = 30 minutes AFTER

For example:

  1. Half past six = 6:30
  2. Quarter to 7 = 6:45
  3. Quarter past 11 = 11:15

Practice!

How do you write 1:30?

What time is quarter past 4?

What time is half past 7?

How do you write 10:15?

Good luck practicing!! 😀

E.F.

   ¡Hola chicas y chicos!
